Solid Surface Countertops
Solid-surface countertops are made to resemble natural stone while remaining mostly non-porous. Being non-porous, these types of countertops are easily cleaned and provide a very sanitary workspace. Made of mineral dust mixed with plastic resins and pigments, these countertops are solid from top to bottom. If you do scratch your solid surface countertop, it can be easily repaired. Solid-surface countertops can be formed to create a seamless integration with other features in the space, like sinks, backsplashes, and appliances.
You will need to be a bit cautious with solid-surface countertops. They are softer than natural stone options, making them vulnerable to scratches. Unable to withstand heat, these countertops are not made for hot pots and pans to be placed on them.
Solid-surface materials offer flexibility and durability when designing commercial countertops and tabletops. If you need a countertop that is easily maintained and doesn’t need to withstand heat or heavy loads, this may be the option for your space. Hawk Industries fabricates and installs solid surface countertops with care and precision. We are a Dupont Corian certified commercial fabricator and foodservice equipment installer of Meganite, HI-MACS, Wilsonart, Hartex, Staron, and Formica countertops.
Plastic Laminate Countertop
Plastic laminate countertops are one of the most budget-friendly countertop options. There are many color and design options with plastic laminate, so you can achieve any style you have in mind. Designs are printed onto the laminate material, and with today’s technology there are endless possibilities. Maintenance for laminate countertops is very simple, requiring only regular cleaning to keep them in great condition. Having a non-porous surface, it’s easy to clean up spills, and maintain a sanitary workspace. Plastic laminate is not as hardy as a natural stone or solid-surface countertop, so it could suffer wear and tear with lots of use. You need to be cautious with heat on laminate to avoid melting it. Although there are a few downsides to plastic laminate, there are many scenarios when it’s a great option. If you’re designing a space with a tight budget, or have a specific design pattern in mind, you should absolutely consider plastic laminate.
We manufacture a complete line of custom-laminate countertops and tabletops for every commercial design need. Hawk Industries offers plastic laminates from manufacturers including Formica, Wilsonart, Pionite, Nevamar and Laminart among others.
There are many countertop options, and different uses for each one. If you need help determining the best solution for your commercial space, we would love to walk you through the process.
